Lightning Fibre bid a fond farewell to Spots and Bolts

Back to Blogs

Lightning Fibre joined Cllr Hazel Timpe, Cabinet Member Tourism, Communities, Culture, Sports/Leisure Sackville Ward, to bid a fond farewell to Spots and Bolts, part of the Follow that Duck Art Trail 2022.

On Friday 24th June 30 Large Duck Sculptures and smaller 'ducklings' appeared in venues and outdoor spaces from Hastings Old Town to Bexhill-on-Sea. Organised by St.Michael's Hospice.

For ten weeks in the summer of 2022 the streets, gardens and beaches of Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill on Sea have been brought to life by a flock of fabulous 'Rubber Duck' sculptures. Each giant duck is hand decorated with individually created designs, many of which will showcase the wealth of artistic talent within East Sussex.  This free, fun, family friendly live art trail played an integral part in the economic, cultural and social recovery of Hastings and Rother, enticing locals and visitors back into our beautiful local area.

Thank you to d.l.r_art for creating 'Spots and Bolts', the Lightning Fibre sponsored Duck Sculpture.

Lightning Fibre Head of Sales and Marketing, Rob Reaks, and Community Engagement Manager NIcola Funnell joined Cllr Hazel Timpe, Cabinet Member Tourism, Communities, Culture,Sports/Leisure Sackville Ward to say farewell to 'Spots and Bolts'.

Rob commented, "We're proud to have played our part in delivering this lovely art trail to our communities, and visitors, this summer. These colourful, interesting Sculptures have been a popular edition to Hastings and Rother and have helped us promote our local brand, whilst supporting the vital work of St.Michael's Hospice."

Duck de-installation day - Monday 5th September. A team of artists will undertake any minor repairs, cleaning and touch ups required to ensure all the sculptures are in tip top condition for the Farewell Weekend.

Hook a Duck Auction

On Friday 7th October the large duck sculptures will be auctioned off to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice.

The Auction will be run by well known local auctioneer, Kevin Well from Rye Auction Galleries Ltd who will take to the podium to ensure that each and every Duck finds a new and permanent nesting site.

We will have a live online auction running in sync with the live Auction, courtesy of Easy Live Auction so even if you can’t get to Hastings you can still raise your paddle and bid for a Rubber Duck!

Joining in the Auction

The Hook a Duck Auction is taking place on Friday 7th October 2022 in The Atrium of East Sussex Coast College.  The Auction is due to start at 7.30pm. Proceeds from the Follow that Duck ‘Hook a Duck Auction’ will go to St Michael’s Hospice (registered charity no. 288462). Due to limited capacity at the venue, we ask that only serious bidders secure tickets for the live auction with the understanding that Wild in Art sculptures typically fetch between £2,500 and £15,000 at auction.  This is to ensure that we can sell all of our sculptures and raise the highest possible amount of money for St Michael’s Hospice.  Online bidders will have a live video feed to the event on the night.

If you have fallen in love with one of our large Rubber Duck Sculptures and would like to secure a seat at the Hook a Duck Auction please register your interest by completing our short form
