Lightning Fibre Sails into Sovereign Harbour, delivering Full Fibre broadband to over 6,000 homes and businesses
Lightning Fibre Founder and CEO Ben Ferriman, joined Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club Rear Commodore, Racing, Dickie Bird, to celebrate the launch of Lightning Fibre’s brand new Full Fibre broadband network at Sovereign Harbour.
Lightning Fibre secured funding in Oct 2020 to build a brand new Full Fibre broadband network across Eastbourne and this latest milestone was eagerly awaited by residents and businesses, who have struggled with low speeds for many years as the demand placed on the old copper network becomes increasingly unsustainable.
Boris Johnson recently used his No 10 departure speech to highlight the need for National Gigabit broadband coverage, citing a 70% penetration across the country as AltNets like Lightning Fibre mobilise and invest to upgrade Britain for the Digital Age.
Ben Ferriman commented, “We’ve recently passed 60,000 premises and we’re ahead of schedule. This latest release means even more of our home town is connectable to our brand new, hyper fast Full Fibre network, making Eastbourne one of the best connected areas in the whole of the UK. For too long, we have coped with sub-standard broadband, hindering our home and working lives. We have thousands of happy customers and more areas will become live in the coming months, so we encourage people to register online for updates.”
With prices starting from £24 per month, the Full Fibre broadband is priced competitively, in some cases costing less than an old, slower copper/fibre connection. Symmetric speeds of up to 900Mbps are guaranteed at the modem, and the company will shortly launch a ‘virtual landline’ landline replacement service for those wishing to keep a home phone.
There are no ‘in contract’ inflationary price increases, unlike many mainstream Internet Service Providers, and prices are guaranteed not to change during a fixed term contract. The locally based company has its Headquarters and customer service team based in Polegate, and supports Eastbourne Carnival, Wyntercon, Eastbourne’s Ice Rink and charities including Children with Cancer Fund, St Wilfrid’s Hospice and Wayfinder Woman.
Dickie Bird added, “We’ve signed up the Yacht Club and look forward to enjoying hyper fast speeds, with the added benefit of having it delivered by a local firm. Lightning Fibre have financially supported us by sponsoring a buoy, as well as supporting lots of events and good causes across Eastbourne and beyond.”
