Lightning Fibre Team undertakes Vision Support Training with East Sussex Vision Support
Eastbourne-based Broadband Provider Lightning Fibre has recently taken a significant stride inits commitment to supporting the visually impaired community. This commendable initiative involved comprehensive training sessions for employees in collaboration with East Sussex Vision Support, reinforcing the firm’s dedication to community well-being and disability awareness.
These training courses have provided insights into the challenges faced by the visually impaired. They have sensitised the team members to the need for adapting working practices to better serve the community.
Thanks to East Sussex Vision Support, Lightning Fibre had the opportunity to experience firsthand the various visual impairments individuals may encounter.Sim Specs were provided, allowing the team to perceive the world through the lens of conditions such as retinal degeneration, vision loss, and reduced visual acuity. To deepen their understanding, Lightning Fibre staff also participated in paired outings, where one team member acted as a guide while the other, wearing the Sim Specs, navigated the environment.
Lightning Fibre better understands the challenges faced by the visually impaired community; armed with this understanding, the company can create a more inclusive and disability-aware future.
Grant White, Health and Safety Manager at Lightning Fibre, commented, “Safety is of paramount importance, we want to make sure our employees, sub contractors and the public are as safe as possible whilst we undertake road works. It’s especially important that those with disabilities or mobility issues are considered, protected, and looked after”.
